Jen and Matt's European Vacation

London

< /tr>

Day 1

First stop, Trafalgar Square. Here's some big pole-type monument in the middle of the square.
They sold pigeon food in little plastic cups.
Apparently, the pigeons knew about this.
It seems these pigeons have lost any and all of the inhibitions that Chicago pigeons have.
They were quite friendly.
Jen even made friends very quickly.
A nice roosting place.
Now we're having fun.
Big, big Lion statues in Trafalgar Square.
Only a couple of hours into the trip, and we're already roaring with laughter. (Sorry, cheezy joke.)
One of the Royal Horse Guards
Another Horse Guard without his horse.
"Kids, Big Ben....."
"....Parliament."
Big Ben, little Matt
Nice Hat, Jen.
Closer view of the Houses of Parliament.
A nice flower bush in the park behind the Parliament building.
Side door to Westminster Abbey.
Front doors to Westminster Abbey.

Day 2

Royal Crests on the gates at Buckingham Palace
Nice statue/sculpture outside of Buckingham Palace.
The Guards come parading in to begin the Changing of the Guards ceremony every 11:00 am at Buckingham.
More Royal Guards come filing in for the ceremony.
Yet another shot of the Royal Guards.
During the Changing of the Guards ceremony, there was a royal band, and among other things, they actually played the theme to Star Wars. I just about fell over!
A beautiful garden and park around the bend from the Palace.
Another shot of the garden and some interesting buildings in the background.
Same scene, bigger picture.
Pelicans...wild ones???
Not something you see everyday, huh?
One more shot from the bridge over the pond.
It took a while, but I FINALLY convinced Jen to have a portrait drawn from one of the street artists in Leciester Square.
He did it using a charcoal-type stuff and various other tools.
It ended up looking very good!

Day 3

Day trip to Windsor Castle.
It's good to be the Queen.
Courtyard/Alleyway outside of the Castle itself.
Another part of the Castle.
Road down to Her Royal Highness's Chapel.
The Chapel itself.
Outside the Castle and down the hill. Just a back gate, but a good picture.
One last look through the trees to Windsor Castle.

Day 4

View from the back of the Tower of London. Not very tall for a tower, huh?
We didn't go into the Tower, but decided to hang out around the Tower Bridge.
Now you get the big picture.
Another look from the other side of the Tower of London.
OK, can't see much, back to the Tower Bridge.
Don't quite know what the significance is, but there's a Battleship in the Thames River by the Tower stuff.
And also a Pirate Ship of some kind there too.
Don't ask.
I took these two pictures to have a little fun. I was going to see if I could put cut her image out and put it behind the bridge looking like Godzilla or something. All in good time.
The Amazing Coin Operated Juggler back in Leciester Square. He was very good! One of the best gimmicks I've seen for a Street Performer.
We saw the play RENT...kind of odd to see a play set in New York City performed in London. But I suppose the reverse is true with Shakespeare in the U.S.

Day 5

Pictures from our Hostel room at the Ashlee House.
From the other side....exciting, I know.
Abbey Road, of Beatles fame.
The gate outside of the Abbey Road Recording Studios is filled with graffiti from the hundreds of Beatles fans that make the pilgrimage here.
The Studios building itself. Soooooo many of the biggest albums in history were recorded in these studios....including the soundtrack to the new Star Wars movie!
More Graffiti.
Studio and graffiti.
There were a group of english folks there dressed up just like the Beatles were on their "ABBEY ROAD" album cover getting their pictures taken on the same crosswalk as the album photo was taken.
I thought it was pretty cool myself, and took a couple of photos.
The end result looks VERY close to the original album cover.
Of course, I couldn't resist myself!!!!
I just wonder how much we spent on Just Juice brand Apple Juice in London....a lot!
Outside of St. Paul's Cathedral.
A blurred but familiar face in the cafe across from St. Paul's.

That night, it was off to Paris, then up early to train to Freiburg Germany!!!!
